日々ドローイングコレクション: パフュームエディション / daily drawings collection: the perfume edition
「日々ドローイングコレクション」アーティストブック/zineシリーズの第一弾。 今回のリリースは、2019年12月にHasu no hanaで開催される私の「独走する脳」個展に合わせたものです。 このシリーズは、電車やバスでの通勤中にドローイングを描くという、ほとんど、時にはそうでもない日常的な私の実践から派生しています。 これらのドローイングは、マークメイキングと、ページ上のマークに対する私の直感的な反応に焦点を当てて、その瞬間に作られています。
2015年からは1,200枚近くのドローイングを制作してきました。 これらのドローイングは、先入観を持って描いたものではありません。 しかし、何年もかけて描いてきたドローイングを見ていると、そこには反復するモチーフや形があることに気がつきました。 私はドローイングを、個人的な、しかし解読不可能な言葉を使った日記のようなものだと考えるようになりました。
ドローイングに込められたものを理解するために、私は美術実践の中で、様々なアプローチでドローイングを分析してきました。 それぞれのドローイングはスキャンされ、日付、特定の年に制作された順番、制作中に何を聴いていたかが記されたラベルが付けられています。 それらのドローイングを考察し、様々な形やレイアウトに再構成することで、意味や関係性を探っていきます。
その延長線上にあるのが、この「日々ドローイングコレクション」シリーズです。 このリリースは、日本のポップトリオPerfumeを聴きながら、2019年に私が作ったすべてのデイリードローイングをまとめたものです。 シンプルなフォトブックとしてデザインされたこの初公開のリリースは、手のひらサイズのフォーマットで、これらのドローイングの中にある関係性を探すために、読者と私自身を誘う。
This is the first edition in the “daily drawings collection” artist book/zine series. This release was in conjunction with my solo exhibition “A Brain with a Mind of Its Own” at Hasu no hana in December 2019. This series is derived from my ongoing almost, sometimes not so much, daily practice where I make drawings during my commutes on trains and buses. These drawings are made in the moment focusing on mark making and my intuitive responses to the marks on the page..
Since 2015, I have made almost 1,200 drawings. These drawings are not made with any preconceived ideas in mind. However, looking over the years of drawings, I noticed recurring motifs and forms in these drawings. I started to think of the drawings as a diary using personal, yet indecipherable language.
To try and understand what is embedded in these drawings, I have taken various approaches to analyzing these drawings in my studio practice. Each drawing is scanned and labelled with the date, the order made in a particular year, and what I was listening to while making the drawing. The drawings are considered and reconfigured into different forms and layouts to seek out meanings and relationships.
The “daily drawings collection” series is the book form extension of these approaches. This release compiles all the Daily Drawings I have made in 2019 while listening to the Japanese pop trio Perfume. Designed as a simple photobook, this inaugural release invites the reader and myself to look for relationships within these drawings in a handheld format.
